Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide investigators said a man confessed to an early morning stabbing Saturday.
Deputies were dispatched to 2054 N. Ocean Drive in Deerfield Beach at 7:06 a.m. after a man said he had killed a homeless man, authorities said.
According to deputies, the suspect was waiting for them at the scene to recount the crime.
John stabile, 23, was sitting on the street curb with the alleged murder weapon in his waistband, deputies said.
Detectives said Stabile told them he stabbed the adult male in the alley between Rattlesnake Jake’s and the Sea Girl shop, and then waited for him to die before calling to report the murder.
BSO said Stabile denies knowing or having had any problems with the victim. He told detectives he had seen the homeless man around the area and had been thinking about killing him for a couple of weeks, BSO said.
Stabile said he saw his victim Saturday morning, went to his apartment nearby to grab a large butcher knife, then went back to find the victim and kill him, authorities said.
Authorities said Stabile told detectives he wants to go to jail for the rest of his life, or else he'll kill again.
Stabile was booked into the BSO Main Jail on one count of murder in the first degree, authorities said.
BSO homicide detectives said they are withholding the victim’s name pending notification of his next of kin.
