A terminal at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport was evacuated and flights were halted Wednesday after a suspicious substance was found in a passenger's luggage, police said.
At around 8 p.m., customs officials took precautions after a traveler coming from Haiti had an unknown substance in their luggage. Terminal 4 was evacuated and three inbound flights were held at the gate.
Broward County hazmat crews inspected the substance and determined that it was some kind of fertilizer. The airport was given the all-clear and the terminal reopened at around 9:45.
