Port everglades at maximum capacity

Eight major cruise ships are expected to sail in and out of Port Everglades each day this weekend, making it the busiest weekend in the seaport's history. The reason? Specially scheduled New Year's holiday weekend cruises are returning. In addition to the massive cruiseliners, the daily cruise ferry to the Bahamas is also making trips Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Over the three days, an estimated 106,000 passengers, excluding those on the Bahamas ferry, are expected to travel through Port Everglades. To give you an idea of how many people that is, Sun Life Stadium, where the Miami Dolphins play, can only hold three-quarters that many people. "We don't know of another homeport that has ever hosted so many cruise ships consecutively over three days. It is certainly a record weekend for Port Everglades, " says Port Everglades Cheif Excecutive Phil Allen. If lined up bow to stern, the ships sailing this weekend would be as tall as 22 Eiffel Towers!
