For the past 8 years Miami Fire Rescue Emergency Specialist Kristin Jordahl has been battling breast cancer, but never alone. Her supervisors and colleagues have been her support system in every step of her fight.

"They make me want to come to work.. because the work environment is so pleasurable," said Jordahl.

Jordahl discovered the lump in her breast in 2004 and ever since it has been quite a fight. The cancer has come back twice and this past spring she got word that it had spread all over her body. Still the veteran employee comes to work and does her job with a good attitude everyday.

"The most special thing is her will.. her willingness to survive," said good friend Assistant Chief Joseph Zahralban.

Chief Maurice Kemp is one of her supervisors,

"She is always upbeat and ready to fight."

In Kristin's honor and to raise money for research the city of Miami Fire Department is having a fundraiser on Thursday October 25th at the Firefighters Memorial Building at 8000 NW 21st street. All proceeds go for research for Breast Cancer at the UM Slyvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Kristin says telling her story and helping fundraiser helps her cope.

"it's a never ending story.. some people have cancer and it goes away.. some of us aren't that lucky that's why research is so important, " said Jordahl.
