South Florida races for the cure

Thousands of people sporting pink participated in the Susan G. Komen “Race For The Cure” event in Miami. And though everyone wears pink, only breast cancer survivors are wearing the official, pink race T-shirt.

“When I came to the race and saw all those people who walk and survived it, that’s what gives me strength, motivates me, lifts me up, gives me self-esteem, and everything like that,” said participant, Sonia Hill.

The 5K race and run was held Saturday morning at Bayfront Park. The race started in the 1990’s and has become so popular that the single event in Miami raises more than $12 million.

The race began on Biscayne Blvd and Flagler Street and will circle around downtown Miami. The route may cause some congestion for drivers.

Miami-Dade Transit will provide additional Metromover service.
