The son of a woman on The Real Housewives of Miami has been charged with simple battery, a misdemeanor, for attacking a homeless man, said Miami Beach police.

Peter Rosello turned himself into police on Wednesday. Rosello is the son of Alexia Echevarria.

"They don't know my son. My son has a huge heart," said Echevarria. "He's just a good kid who made the wrong choice at that time."

According to investigators, Rosello was recorded on video punching a homeless man in the groin while he was asleep. The video was later posted to YouTube and on his Facebook page.

"Any mother could identify with this," said Echevarria.

After contacting the victim, he identified Rosello as the man who hit him. It's unclear what, if anything, prompted the attack.

"We're just concerned about Peter. He just had surgery and we want to make sure he's fine," said Herman Echevarria, Rosello's father.

"He's very sad about this, and, hopefully, we'll get through it, all the family, because everything else I have going on in my life," said Echevarria.

Last year, Echevarria dealt with younger son's recovery from an car crash.

"You never think about this side and how unfortunate it is and how people -- the humanity -- they have this hate inside their heart," said Echevarria. "They like this -- they like to see other families suffering. To me, that's the saddest think of this whole situation."

Rosello bonded out of jail on Wednesday evening.

Echevarria, known as the "Cuban Barbie," is the executive editor for Venue Magazine.

The Real Housewives of Miami is in its second season on Bravo.
