A group of lucky ducklings were rescued after being stuck in a Miami Lakes storm drain for days.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue came to help the 11 ducklings out, and reunite them with their mother.
“They’d been crying for a few days and we tried putting a few things down there, but I honestly thought the rain would take them out and apparently that wasn’t the case in this instance to be honest. It all ended well,” said Sandra Appleton.
Appleton heard the little ones’ cries for help so she called the fire department, which sent out a crew to make the rescue.
"This isn't the first time we've had ducks fall in some drains in Miami Lakes and we've dealt with it before,” Capt. Frank Leavitt of Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue said. “Sometimes we get lucky and save a few little ducks. Mommy duck is happy and all is well in the kingdom.”

Firefighters used a hose to flood a neighboring storm drain. The ducklings were caught by a net and were brought out, one by one, as their nervous mother looked on.
Firefighters described the ordeal as rewarding.
"Any baby critter tugs are your heart strings, so to pull out a good save, it’s a nice thing," Leavitt said.
Firefighters still aren't sure how the ducklings ended up in the storm drain.
