Daniella is an artist who dreams of being a nurse. Nico loves fire trucks and wants to be a golfer like his grandpa.
For these bright and beautiful children, the possibilities are endless. They have cancer, but today, they also have hope.
"We have overall cure rates for childhood cancers of 78 percent, almost 80 percent, and that has not happened by accident. It happened because of research," said Dr. Brian Cauff with Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital.
That research is what keeps moms like Valentina Lopez strong. She knows every day, doctors are looking for new ways to save lives, including her son Nico's.
"And to know that there is money being invested to find a solution, a cure, is very important because I don't want any kid to go through what we had to go through," said Lopez.
"We are constantly collecting data, tumor samples, blood samples. It is an expensive undertaking," said Dr. Cauff.
But that expensive research is priceless for kids like Nico.
"He's going to have a very bright future," said Lopez, "And I can only see beautiful things ahead in his life."
Dr. Cauff will be shaving his head at the upcoming St. Baldrick's event at Mickey Bryne's Irish Pub in Hollywood. The money raised at the event goes to children's cancer research. The fundraiser starts at 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 15, at Mickey Byrne's, located at 1921 Hollywood Boulevard.
